Conquest of the West

The United States continued to expand west after the Civil War and efforts increased to forcibly remove Indigenous populations from desired lands. There were several standoffs that led to massacres of Native men, women, and children, and the remaining Indigenous leaders each succumbed to relentless conquest of the west.
