Logical Fallacies, Part I - Slides

january 23, 2019

Resources

We begin with an explanation of why logical fallacies are useful to know for AP Lang. Even though you likely wonโ€™t come across logical fallacies on the Multiple Choice portion of the test, knowing and avoiding common fallacies in argument is a crucial component of this course. In this session, we spend the majority of time unpacking seven of the most common logical fallacies. We define each, explain why each example is so common, and provide several everyday examples of each. The following logical fallacies are discussed in this session: Ad Hominem, Straw Man, Appeal to Ignorance, False Dilemma, Slippery Slope, Circular Argument, and Hasty Generalization.
